The zoo keeps on offering an endless range of photo opportunities. I have been trying to take this shot for months. Usually the light is bad or the sky to cloudy, but this time we made it to the zoo a bit earlier than usual and I finally got to bag this most elusive game.
Can you hear me now ?

The black and white of the fence is a great contrast to the blue of the sky. The speaker and branch are nice additions to give some complexity to a simple looking shot. Nice job!
Hearing you loud and clear, Martin.
It is a wonderful image, except that I feel a little distracted by that leafy alien top right...picture looks better to me if it is cropped at the top of the cloud.
But...what the heck would I know...[grin]
Martin: Thank you for the comment, Ray! I tried cropping it out, but thought the shot looked a bit bland that way. Nothing like a green alien to fix that, I guess
Beautiful shot, Martin. I wish the leaves were sharper, but they do provide a nice balance for the loud speaker.
I like that you've followed a rule of thirds with the fence and the cloud vertically, but something seems a little off on the placement of the speaker...
Finding these "fence" shots most interesting - it is a device I have used in paintings to distance the "viewer", but never from a low perspective like this. Back to the photo, it works a treat - especially as interpretation is so wide open. Perfect cloud, speaker disturbs symmetry and branch adds depth. My only question is over the title - it sets a mood for the piece that could be quite different. Liked!
You tell ray that you can't have a leafless zoo shot. Can't happen.
I should add that when I scroll the leaves out of the picture it does improve. For me.
Great shot.
Martin: That's right. Must have leaf if it is from the zoo! Thank you for the funny comment. It made me laugh on a Monday morning, which is a great way to start the week. I tried cropping out the leaf, but found the resulting shot a bit bland. I can certainly see that it would clarify the shot, though.
Great texture in the fence and I do like the composition although I'm not sure whether the branch adds or detracts. On reflection, I would probably prefer the simplicity of the picture without the branch.
