Over or Around?
I don't have anything especially special to post today for #500, but this is a good time to once again thank all of you for making SC such a wonderful and instructive place. I appreciate the countless visits, comments, suggestions, and above all the camaraderie.
Nevertheless, over the last few months I have become somewhat dissatisfied with the routine of posting a new picture daily. In some cases I posted a picture just to fill the slot, not because I thought it should really be published. In addition, onexposure.net has taken some of my better pictures, which reduced the average quality of what I posted here even more. Consequently I will start posting fewer pictures at longer intervals. Hopefully that will translate into better overall quality. I will be around to check your blogs on a regularly basis. Thanks again for bearing with me for 500 posts and for all the help and encouragement!

Congratulations on reaching that milestone, Martin. I haven't been on SC very long, but I feel I've already learned a lot from looking at your photos.
Bugger!
There goes the free education... Unusual wall...interesting finish on the mortar.
LOL at Ray! I agree.
Congratulations on 500. I'm guessing if you counted the bricks in this structure, you'd get to 500 very quickly. And I do understand what you're saying about the "routine" and will trust you to do the right thing for yourself. I'm sure you'll make it all work!
Congratulations on post #500. We tend to be our own worst enemies sometimes setting up arbitrary guidelines and then forcing ourselves to meet them. I'm glad that you are stepping back and shaking things up. Change is good.
Well, what can I say. Just don't make the breaks too long. I don't feel pressed into the daily blog - that is why I don't blog weekends. Otherwise it is 'routine' and what's more can become very time consuming.
The worn bricks provide enough toe holds, so go over.
I like this image, Martin. The contrast in colour, the dynamic angle and the detail on the mortar. Happy 500.
Happy 500 Martin!
Beautiful shot. I like the lines and the colours contrast!
I am sorry to say Ray is so right here, you have been an inspriration to me, congratulations on you 500, I know you like to go for quality....I will keep track of you whenever you post....I do understand your dilemma, sometimes I have the same feeling about my posting, due to lack of time I will have less pics during the week.
This to me is again a great shot, love the POV and the great details in it.
A 500 of quality photographs - a fantastic achievement.
Had a look at onexposure, but wasn't convinced. Will keep an eye on your page ;o)
What a great achievement Martin, 500 wow
I have also checked out onexposure and think your shots are outstanding, you will be missed on Shutterchance but you must do whats right for you.. Your advice is always a blessing to many on this site.
Congratulations on the 500! I really like this one -- the hard wall and the beautiful sky with the soft clouds.
Another quality BLUE Martin shot. I agree with you on the routine point, and I have been trying to get pics on OneExposure but they havent been accepted as yet, so it is forcing me to up my game. I still like the community on SC though, but I fear the time to blog will be it's onw downfall
Interesting view in this one!
I read you concerning the a-picture-a-day-hysteria. I've been caught in that one as well and it's of no good for you as a photographer. Better to go with quality than quantity! /Jonas
That's cool, Martin. I just discovered onexposure.net through another photoblogger. Congratulations on posting there! What's your site address, if you'd like to share?
This structure seems appropriate to the monumental achievement of 500 posts! Congratulations. I've been posting much less often of late for many of the same reasons you cited. I'll look forward to your photographs at whatever intervals they may appear. Keep up the great work.
I think it's something we all think of from time to time. It's hard to get the balance right, but we all seem to work out our own 'best' way in the end. Sometimes it does mean uploading fewer pictures and being more selective, sometimes it just means taking a break for a while to reassess things.
Congratulations on your 500th, it's one heck of a milestone really, isn't it. And you've made today's picture a sharp 'point' too.
I only discovered your blog fairly recently Martin and I must say it's one of my favourites now, so I hope you won't be leaving us entirely. I understand your reasons though. I've felt the same way at times... but one a day is a bit slavish. None of us need feel obliged to keep that up forever. Best, Ian.
500 is quite an achievement Martin. I don't think you or anybody should feel compelled to post pictures everyday. The standard you have maintained has been superb and I've learned from your pictures and from many others. I am also reaching a point when I feel that I will not necessarily try to post every day.
The point on this building has made the point. Well done point ... it would be pointless me trying to make the point any stronger than that .... it might blunt the point I was trying to make ;-) ;-) richard
Very nice angle.
congrats Martin on your 500th and looking forward to seeing more quality images from you in the future, dont be away for too long
Congrats, Martin!
Impressive sky, beautiful photo.
