Emeralds and Grains
Donald Judd, a somewhat famous and commercially fairly successful artist, moved to Marfa in the '70s. Apparently he passed though on a bus many years earlier and found the place to his liking. It is less than obvious to me why, especially since there are fairly attractive small towns in nearby mountains.

It is even less obvious why he elected to live next to the smelly and noisy grain elevator in the background or why he would build a deep lap pool that is too short to get any swimming done between flip turns. On the other hand, the pool has turned an attractive shade of green, which adds to the slightly surreal environment he lived in until his death about a decade ago.
