The Arlington of the Southwest
The gravestones are all unmarked and the cemetery itself is protected by two fences. The outer one is a regular barbed wire fence, but the inner one is electrified. I don't know why such protective measures are necessary, but it obviously didn't prevent me from taking pictures.

Unmarked gravestones in a protected area.. interesting site. This photo gives you the eerie yet solemn feeling. This is a good shot - great angle, color balance, and great timing.
This looks a bit scary. The gravestones and the vastness. Great !
wow. sounds like a very high security cemetery. powerful photo. great color, detail, composition.
I never knew of such a place, Martin! You have clearly done it justice with your beautiful, photographic tribute.
stunning photo
The whole scene is too surreal to be true, Martin, but then again, nothing is more surreal then reality... just look at our president.
Love it. Why did you choose 1/1000 shutterspeed for this shot?
Martin: Thanks, VZ! The shutter speed is operator error. I had the aperture on wide open from a previous shot and forgot to change it.
Beautifully taken, IMPRESSED
Wow the vastness just grabs me.
You did justice to this important place, places like this always gets me thinking of the pain that wars and fight causes. This is a great picture, the colors are stunning, full of drama.
(I have been on the Arlington Cemetry, never forget that view)
Everything about this graveyard is so military and perfect, just like your shot. Thanks for showing it
Massed gravestones are always a very moving sight. These have an air of strangeness about them because of the empty setting and the bright colours.
Ingrid
This is remarkable, martin.
Well it can't be to keep them in! This is a strange picture Martin and I would love to know thew reason for the fence and who is buried here
Another great image Martin. Very poignant, this little plot amid that vast landscape.
Surreal light for a dark place. Good shot.
Hmmmm! This is a fabulous image, made really so by the low angle light and the wonderful long shadows of the headstones..
Wonder if the fences are to keep folks out, or ex-folks in?
You have captured this sad scene beautifully. Great photo!
A perfect capture Martin - I always find these places very emotive.
Intriguing. Good shooting angle. richard
Very impressive picture. It looks surreal. Well done!
Very moving! perfectly realised as always!
A sad sight, but a fascinating photograph. Even more fascinating is the `high security`. I just can`t imagine vandals being a problem - it looks so remote.
Superb lights and energetic colours!
Nice work!
I am imagining you jumping the fences - the electric one is the tricky bit to get over tho. Brings back memories of when i was little we had an electric fence to keep our goats in.
Certainly a best of ! Very strange atmosphere and the composition is perfect !!
You caught different sets of rows in this picture. Excellent.
I saw a picture in our paper this morning, where some artist arranged toilet seats roughly in the same way and the photographer used this same angle. |
