The West
The internet is working again, so here is a shot to set the stage for an endless series of West Texas vacation pictures.
This one probably sums up the place best: empty flat roads, faded blue skies, and grubby tired-looking hills in the background. It is much prettier than the flood plain I live in, but on an absolute scale it is not much to write home about. On the other hand, the locals are very friendly and the climate is much more tolerable than what we get in Houston. Aside from the fact that the nearest real city is about 300 miles away it might not be such a bad place to live.

Wow ! So sharp and colorful. This is an absolutely great photo.
Very sharp picture. good composition too.
I like this shot a lot. How many did you take in this spot before settling on a composition that you liked? I'd be curious to see the original before any cropping or processing. The road texture is fantastic. Could have used a bit more dof, though.
WOW great colour and composition
i love the way you use basic elements such as composition and colour to turn otherwise mundane settings into masterpieces
wow check out the rich texture of the road
I had to start laughing at the road signs, Martin, because after reading what you described, this is one of those roads that can lull you to sleep if you're not careful! EXCEPT for those "grubby tired-looking hills," which I quite like.
So glad your Internet is working again. Bring on the "endless series of West Texas vacation pictures!"
What a great view point you have taken this shot from Martin
Cool shot, nice PP and the contrast of road texture to smooth sky.
Wow this is awesome Martin!
Terrific shot Martin
Fabulous composition Martin. It gives a real sense of the vastness of the lanscape. And I love that touch of yellow echoed in the road lines.

I`m all buckled up and ready for the road trip! (:o)
Very nice perspective shot with great details and colours.
Excellent angle and composition. The multi-coloured stones provide great texture as well.
They must be low on traffic as well, none in sight and you laying on the road
great perspective & composition. works well with lines. excellent shot, martin!
And they say I have to take care laying on the railroad tracks.....this is a suberb picture, I am glad they put in some signs to get you to the right direction, I am on the tour with you, I love vacation pictures
I think many people in Europe think the highways in the US are looking like this, but I knew that it is very nice.
Not a blade or leaf of green anywhere...you Texans do it tough!
The road to nowhere Martin?!! Great angle.
Fantastic shot!!! The perspective and composition is great!
Great angle. Did you have to lie on the baking ground? I'm looking forward to this series. The American West is the anithesis of the British landscape... and that makes it alluring.
That is absolutely wonderful Martin. I love the fierce colours & the mountains beyond the road
wow, super sharp, great composition and colour, pretty damn good actually
Excellent shot! Makes me want to drive down this road and see where it takes me.
It's pictures like this that remind me just how much bigger than the UK, America is
I like it, good low POV adds massivly to appeal, well done
Good to see you back MArtin
I do like this picture of yours, you have one heck of a skill with 'geometric' pictures. You get the composition absolutely spot on. Most people in this place would have taken a picture of the mountains in the distance, but they're almost secondary but so essential to the whole thing.
Amazing composition!
I like the tones, and colours! Brilliant!
Reminds me of some parts of Australia. Great picture
Stunning shot Martin. Your photos are always so refreshing!
So terrific! I hope I can visit up there one day. Glad you got to get away.
great angle! nobody on the way...I like it
