Tomorrow Morning

Since so many of you graciously provided feedback on the last experiment I posted, I decided to run another one by you today. Obviously this is a bit of a departure from what I usually post, but it is good to break out of the normal routine every once in a while. Tomorrow will be back to the usual fare.

This is my first attempt to use various textures in Photoshop. Skilled practitioners of this dark art can achieve truly astonishing results. I am offering this for your critique as a beginner's first step. What do you think? Do the textures enhance the shot or detract from it? Is it tacky or nice? Should I have used different textures? Any and all feedback is most welcome, especially the honest kind. It won't hurt my feelings if you tell me this is an image only the person who took it could love :) Thank you in advance!

Hmm, it would be helpful to see the picture unaltered. Just based on the final product, the alterations are really nicely done. The drama of the darkness around the edges of the photo and the roughness of the edges works with such a solitary setting.

To be honest I'm not really sure what to make of it. Perhaps it's a little too dark at the edges but it's certainly a striking image. I've never really done this sort of thing in Photoshop as I feel it can look a little contrived but there's no harm in trying something out!

It's a good piece of graphic design. It has the quality of a deliberate double exposure from the days of film. And the overall mood is desolate - leafless tree, cracked concrete or masonry. Good to experiment now and again.

You have created an atmosphere of suspense in my eyes

The darkness bring the feeling of mystery.
I do like the shot and has been previously said would make a good cover for a book

Oh Martin. This is just an outstanding photograph. Very powerful visually and done so in an artistic symbolic way what moves in into another category.

Nice twiddle Martin. Agree with Ellie that this has the look of a novel cover. I think if there was a title top left and the author's name bottom right it would make more sense. As an image in its' own right it is, perhaps, a bit self consciously contrived.

not really my cup of tea Martin and i can't help on the tech side but from looking at it i can see the possibilities of making a ordinary scene into something quite special so my advice would be to keep on trying mate

I have a love/hate -relation those thrashy texture-pictures so they must have something very special to get my appresiation. And this one does! Together with your way of processing the colors it gets interesting. The texture and the colors gives an impression that i'm looking at the tree through a piece of broken glas... This is one of the "top-ten" digital texture-pictures i've ever seen, I must say!

I think it depends on what you are trying to convey. But I generally like it, I would say the top left is a bit too distracting, and would be interested to see more

WOW. I REALLY like this. I'm someone who likes alternative photography and it amazes me that someone can do this with photoshop. The only change I would have made, and this is just my opinion, is that I would have removed a bit of color from the ground. Not much.. just a little bit.

I love the colors, the dark is great, I love the tree in it, the atmosphere is a kind of dramatic, this could be used for a cover of a book, a thriller or bloddy murder.
I would love to see some more of that kind of processing.
How many layers did you use??

Looks like yesterday evening to me.

Textures are good...remind me of the effect I get with the first shot I take after the Boy has had his grubby hands on the front of my lens.

For this shot, I might have considered cropping the top down the the top of the white triangle.
